The Bread of Life

The First Baptist Church of Harker Heights Bread of Life is a joint ministry with the Harker Heights United Methodist Church. While we share the wonderful story of salvation through Christ and His second coming, we realize He also spoke of feeding the hungry. From Christ’s viewpoint what is done for those in need is being done for Him.

Jesus spoke of hunger because He knew hunger personally.
• Matthew 4:2 notes that after 40 days and 40 nights of fasting, Jesus was hungry.
• Mark 11:12 tells us that after leaving Bethany, Jesus was hungry. Jesus also saw those around Him who hungered.

• Matthew 12:1 tells of a time when the disciples were hungry. Their response to hunger led to criticism by the Pharisees but provided a teaching moment for Jesus.

• Matthew 15:32 shares where Jesus could not send the crowd away hungry.
To meet their basic need for food, Christ performed a miracle with a boy’s small lunch and feeds the multitude.

Yet past the physical hunger, Jesus knew of the spiritual hunger people experienced. The crowds which followed Jesus wanted miracles to help them believe. They knew of the bread from heaven that their forefathers ate while in the wilderness but that bread (manna) must be consumed daily to ward off the hunger.

At the Bread of Life, we offer a warm meal for those who hunger and provide God’s word and fellowship to feed the soul. We want everyone to know that
Christ offered Himself, the Bread of Life, which never leaves you hungry
(John 6:30-35).
